just started raising turkeys

i have red burbon and alburn babys i would like to keep them healthy,i was told when they get about 2 months old i should vac them with poxine thru the web against fowl pox,is this right? they are 2 weeks old looking heathly so far any advice yall could give me,,,thanks

Could be your turks will never encounter the virus, but it is good to take precautions (we didn't get hit for 8 yrs - then had an ugly outbreak). Just follow all directions with precision (including disposal of the unused portion - if any).

Also, probably a good idea to `prong' them in loose skin on thigh, rather than wing web:

Chickens and pigeons are usually vaccinated by the wing web stick method. An applicator with two slotted needles is dipped in vaccine and thrust through the wing web. Turkeys are not generally vaccinated by the wing web route. Turkeys sleep with their head under the wing. Conjunctival (eye) pox can occur if the vaccine is administered to turkeys via the wing web. Instead, turkeys are vaccinated by a thigh-stick method.

Hi i'm new to turkeys and finally joined BYC I want to build my turkey pen but after fighting illnesses in my babies i'm now worried that maybe i should treat the pen after built? Should i maybe sweet lime it a week or two before putting them in there just to be sure there's no possible chicken germs? I've had chickens roaming but it's been a year. The ones i currently have don't get to roam yet due to a coyote grrr.

any help would be appreciated. I'm raising two BB bronze (for food) a bourbon red..hopefully more if eggs hatch along with royal palms..again if eggs hatch LOL. I'm hoping to get a breeding pair so that eventually i have mom's doing all the work for me .

Currently two babies are inside under lamp and I have a older one who is outside waiting on mom to build the pen LOL
