This site IS just what you need. I am only 10 weeks into the whole raising a flock process and don't know where I would be without BACKYARDCHICKENS!!!! If I have a question,, I just send it out there, and have a response in hours, if not minutes! Good luck with the building, and planning. It's so much fun!
Also, if you are looking for a breed more docile, I know some amazingly friendly Buff Orpingtons, and also, I already have an order in for Spring 2013 on some day olds Coronation Sussex, and also some Buckeye's! Both of these breeds are very cold hearty, and also are known for their very docile nature and attraction for interacting with humans. Also, you can support your homestate of Ohio, as Buckeyes were developed there, and is a breed that is ackowledgedly started by a woman!
