Figure I'll make this easy and use the suggested questions. (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Spent a lot of time as a kid at my great-aunt and uncle's farm. They had a large hen house along with dairy cattle and crop fields. I miss having that connection to a farm and would like to expose my children to at least a small aspect of farming and raising our own food. I just recently started thinking about getting a few layers in the spring and I'm looking for information so I do it right. (2) How many chickens do you have right now? Zero. (3) What breeds do you have? See question #2. (4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? Found it with a google search. (5) What are some of your other hobbies? Hunting, fishing, shooting, camping, photography, reading, geocaching, gardening, paintball, ATV riding... (6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. Been married for 14 years. We have an 11-year-old biological son and a 5-year-old daughter adopted from Vietnam. We have two dogs and four cats. My wife and I are both RNs. I look forward to absorbing as much info as I can this winter so we can start raising some chickens this spring.
