S Ga.
Hello! We picked up 3 barnyard blend chicks over the weekend at the local farm meet and promptly built a coop. Then, we realized our S. Ga. temps were too cool for our young ones so they are in a makeshift brooder in the laundry room. Hope they can make it outside soon!

Hi and welcome to our flock!

I'm glad you joined our community.

Congratulations on your new chicks! You've built a nice-looking coop (I love the colors!). Good luck with your chicks.

Hello from Middle Georgia and

, glad to have another Georgian join the flock.

Congrats on the new babies. You should try to keep them in the brooder until they are fully feathered - 5-6 weeks old. On warm days give them some trips out to the coop.

When you do move them out, be prepared to have to place them in the coop at dusk - our coop is a lot like yours and crawling to get them from under the coop in the dark was a challenge. We placed a regular low light bulb in the coop for just a couple of nights, turned it on and they went in on their own and once locked in we turned the light out. It only took 2 nights with a light to show them the way.

Feel free to ask questions. Enjoy the babies they really do grow fast.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Yes chicks are very susceptible to cold, so good job on bringing them inside. They should be able to move outside permanently around 8 weeks.

They sure are cute!
