My family lives in rural Colorado and we currently have 2 horses, dogs and cats on 5 acres. Our HOA recently approved chickens and we would love to add up to 9 as pets and for fresh eggs. We have 1 available stall inside our barn and are considering that area as their safe place for night with some modifications. We would love tips, ideas and advice on anything that is important to consider. Thanks!

Check out the articles! There is more info here on BYC than you can shake a stick at!

I'm surprised they just now allowed you to have chickens now with 5 acres and horses! A stall sounds like a great area for a flock (depending on the size)!

Any ideas about breeds???

:frow Welcome from New Orleans, @416bigbore has given you some great advice. Enjoy looking around the forums and threads for answers to the questions you will have as you go into this endeavor. Sometimes it's hard work, but for the most part you will enjoy having chickens. There are many questions you will have to answer for yourself as you build and acquire your chicken breeds. Is there a limit to how many chickens you can have and are you allowed to have a rooster?
Roosters can be very helpful in caring for your flock.
