I have been reading for a few weeks and I am staring the process of getting set up for 4-6 layers. City regulations prohibit housing less than 150 ft from any property line. Yesterday I filed for a variance in the zoning. We will see how it goes. At 100$ filing fee it is already costing me!

I have been using this site from teh beginning. Its great, as I am sure you know.

I'll blog my trials and tribulations

Thanks for the warm welcome! (From cold [this year] North Carolina). My plan is to "start" with 2 Buff Orpintons and 2 Silver-Laced Wyandottes. Both look like beautiful all-purpose birds that are good-layers, friendly, and make good pets for kids.

I am really impressed with the depth of this site. At first I thought it was rather broad with little depth. But once I signed up for membership I realized the volumes on info.

I was thinking of naming one of the pullets Avagadro after the Italian chemist. He discovered that there are 6.02 X10^23 molecules of hydrogen in one gram (that's roughly 6 with 23 zeros after it!). I figure a hen named Avagadro ott'ah lay that many eggs! Or at least a lot.

Good luck with the variance.

Hope you do get: 60,000,000,000,000,000,00,00,000 eggs.
