I am in Augusta, currently researching and looking for someone to sell me some chickens. My only concern with getting chickens is my dog might try to eat them. Any suggestions?

Welcome! You are right to be concerned - most dogs will eat/chase chicks, after all, they are small, run fast and act like prey - which they are. Some dogs can be trained to be guard dogs, if you are lucky and have a good, teachable dog, you can train them to co-exist with adult chickens. I have been blessed with 2 Beagles who are very solicitous of the adult birds, I would not, however, trust them with baby birds.
You need to have a dog/predator proof compound for your birds to wander around in. There are several ideas in the learning tab for you to scan through. I think that given dogs tendency to dig, you would have to bury the wire down at least a foot.
I'm sure someone else here will give you advice from a personal perspective. Good luck!
