Amazon has some great deals on mealworms. I put them in the flock blocks I make for the birds. I have so many birds I can't afford to give them what I would like to. I buy the larger bags.

I'd love to do something like this for my ducks. Would this work for ducks since they don't have pointy beaks like chickens do?

I mix dry dog food and meal worms together in a plastic coffee can with a lid. They know that green Folgers can. Most of my ducks would rather have dog food my chickens love the meal worms.

I do that too and when I shake that thing they come a runnin'. I just thought it might be something different and fun for them to keep them occupied and busy if they have to work for it a little bit. I was thinking of a mixture of a bit of lard, enough to hold it together, cat food, mealworms, bird seed and whatever else I could find to go in it. I could harden it in some kind of a mold and they could get busy picking at it. Do you think that would be ok, mostly to use the lard to hold it together? Is lard ok? Not much of it just a little bit to hold everything together.

I have never tried lard. I did read somewhere in my research that lard would work but not on a regular basis. Not the best for poultry. Here is a recipe for one made with suet. You could cut the top off of a gallon milk jug for a mold.

thank you so much! I figure if it's good for chickens it probably can't hurt duck and I am going to use as little as possible. Just enough to make it stick together!
