something just took the head off my large brahma chicken and left the rest in the middle of the horse field...

this happened during the day....we live near the blue ridge parkway in virginia....

any ideas what it could have been??? [IMG]

lately it just seems to be one animal or another....
can't seem to get ahead and each time I lose one, it's so hard to take...
my birds: chickens, guineas, ducks, peacock are all my pets....

Oh...and a black star hen went missing too! What an awful day!

Could be a raccoon that is killing your birds.

Sounds like the work of an owl or hawk.
    Sorry for your loss [IMG]

Hawks and Eagles often take the heads of birds too big to take as whole.

My guess is a hawk or eagle also, coons are nocturnal

Weasels will do it, too. I don't know whether they are nocturnal. I'm so sorry this is happening.

If it was in the day it was a hawk. A coon usually strikes in the evening, early morning and at night. I had a hawk do that to a fairly large bird before.
