Just Vanished...

Hi guys,

I'm doing this on behalf of my friend, she recently lost 5 ducks, 3 hens over the space of 2 weeks. Her enclosure wire is standard chicken mesh only about 1 - 1 1/2 metres tall. I thought this is not enough protection. Yet nothing came apart from the occasional fox. We'll then all the birds jugs vanished, no trace at all. Any ideas on what took them?

The losses are so sad. I have read that foxes are quite good at climbing. Once a clever predator like that finds a source of food they keep coming back unfortunately. A covered run may be the only way to keep them out. I suppose the culprit could also be a bird of prey, which would also be solved by a covered run.

Racoon maybe? Anything that can climb the fence.

Or maybe they just flew the coop. The fence height is easily cleared by a chicken. Were there feathers about the run?

Scratch'n'peck I thought a bird of prey also, I live in Scotland so we don't get coons
