So my husband built this wonderful house for our ducks. When I posted the pictures, I have some replies suggesting that my ducks would probably never use it. Well all this week my ducks have went into their house all by their selves at night. It's the sweetest thing ever. I let them out to free range when I get home, let them swim, give them treats and then I go inside to do inside chores. Then I go out around 9:30 to put them up and give them clean water and they were already in their house...YAH!!!

I'm glad to hear that. I'm finishing up my duck house and was worried that I might have a hard time getting them into it. Congratulations.

when i first put it out, i would have to herd them into it every night for about a week or so. they have learned the "security" factor their house provides. my ducks really aren't that tame so i think that has a lot to do with it. i want them to maintain their sense of caution for their own protection.

I have a fenced enclosure with a little shelter in it that I lock the geese and ducks into at night. The ducks go with no problem and rarely have to be coerced. the geese are another story--but then, it seems to be a recent problem since the drakes seem to think they should mate with anything that moves and they aren't overly picky about species. My female geese are NOT impressed. lol

I think it's the security factor too--They like knowing they are safe from marauding coyotes and raccoons, and the occasional mountain lion. *shudder*
