hello everyone! just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. we recently moved out to no mans land and are getting busy starting our own little farmstead. we have tons of projects planned and started but im hoping this nasty weather ends here shortly so i can actually finish a project before it rains/snows/sleets again. i couldnt be more excited to have found this site where i know i am going to learn a ton! it will be our first year with chickens and im sure will have a bunch of questions as time goes on. currently i have 6 buff orpingtons hanging out in our basement. its been fun working with our 4 dogs introducing them to the chicks and hopefully teaching them to leave them be once they get outside. we will see! tomorrow i have 6 Silver laced wyandottes, 6 aruacannas, and 8 red rangers coming and then on the 4th we have 10 turkeys arriving. oh man, start small they said, what do i go and do? of course went over board. ha! its going to be an interesting summer to say the least! i look forward to gettig to know some of you and am so happy to have a place to go now with im sure the many questions ill have along the way!

Hi and welcome to BYC - great that you have joined us. You certainly have jumped in at the deep end, but don't worry, we'll help you with any questions that you may have.

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Nice to meet you Colleen, what you are experiencing is called "chicken math." Before you know it, you could have more chicks than people in a small town. We are all enablers here and will never tell you , you have too many birds. You are on your own for that.

Welcome!

As you have already received links to some good starting points and look like you are doing OK navigating around BYC, I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
