I am caring for a little disabled duck named Regie, and she was so afraid of water until recently. I had to get into the tub with her, and let her swim with other ducklings to help her overcome her fear of anything bigger than her waterbowl. But slowlly over the last three weeks, she has gained so much confidence and is really having a wonderful time in the bath. This is her having a wonderful splash tonight.

She was flapping around and nearly did a body roll. She tried to dive for the first itme but with only one leg that works she couldnt push herself under the water properly. She really is a little sweetheart, and is always such a chatterbox after a swim too.

This is her bathmates who are 6 weeks younger than her, scared to swim too close to her despite being bigger than her too.

She is so gawjus i feel sorry for her altho it looks like shes haveing a fantastic time not worrying at all!! So how old is she now?? Will you keep her??

Regie is about 10 weeks old now. Her bath mates are 3 weeks old, so she is tiny and still growing her feathers, while her hatchmates are fully featherd and nearly fully grown. She gets around her play pen OK, and is generally happy. She loves cuddles, and can hop around well. If she grows too big it will put more strain on her good leg, so I am thankful that she is so tiny still. But I dont know how long I will keep her. Any sign of pain or discomfort, and I wil take her to the vet. I hope that doesnt happen for a long time, but I dont ever want her to suffer. Every day with Regie is special. I especially love our chats just after I turn out the lights at night.

Naw she sounds quite the sweetheart, i can just imagine, wow i would never think of her as 10 weeks - but i think its really cool she stayed that small. I hope she lives a happy fullfilled life which i am 100% sure she will. You are luck to have her! - and she is lucky to have you!

I think you are a softy duckyfromoz (that is good), & Regie couldn't hope for a better carer. Regie is very fortunate, & I hope Regie continues to do well under your care (& kind heart). I have no doubts that Regie will.

Good on you & well done.

AAAWW thanks guys.... But I am the luckier one. Is is a humbling experience to raise such a beautiful little girl, and really makes you appreciate the life you have...whatever your troubles. I wish there had of been something I could have done to make her normal, so she could have had a proper duckie life outside with the others...But I feel responsible, as I was the one who placed her egg into the incubator... So I want to make sure that whatever life she has..is a comfortable one.

duckyfromoz has the biggest heart!!! she is one of the kindest people i have ever met!! we haven't ever met, but i consider her to be my bestest friend in the whole world. and Regie is lucky to have her as am i

I agree with everyone else. Its a wonderful thing that you're doing for her! Letting her be a duck, swimming and splashing in the tub is great. I also agree that as long as she's not suffering, allow her to enjoy life as much as she can.

You're truly wonderful, hun!

HUGSSSSS

Laurie
