...that chickens were somewhat smart. One of them has to go and teach me better.

This is one of my feeders... the one I am referring to in the following story is in the coop with LARGER birds....

I just filled it YESTERDAY. It normally lasts two days, and even then not quite empty. Apparently they are having a growing spurt because today it was empty.... So I go and get the bucket to fill it up and as I got closer I notice.... speckles or barring.... in there where to food normally is....

IT'S A DANG CHICK in there... one of my Norwegian Jaehron cockerels... almost NINE weeks old had stuffed himself head first up the pipe....

So now he's in the dark and not moving or peeping and from what I glimpse, not BREATHING.... I reach in and grab him by the legs and gently pry him out... and me promptly BITES me...

Yup, he's breathing.

How's that for gratitude? AND me not dumping a bucketfull of FEED on his head!!

I used to keep a big rubbermaid tub in the coop with the feed in it. I'd just open it, fill the feeders, close it up until the next day. One day I opened the box and there was a hen inside- she'd been there all night, and laid 2 eggs.
