Just when things were going so well....

Shoot any coons you catch!!!! Taking him 7 miles from your house is not enough. He will be back and will not be easy to catch in that live trap. You educated him to avoid live traps.

He still has to travel 7 miles. Lets hope the highway claims him first. I took out an entire family of coons with my Dodge Neon years ago. No doubt I saved a few chickens lives that night.

Wisher, I had my first loss from a predator this week. A hawk. I know how you feel. I cried my eyes out. I wish that hawk would have lunched on your predator. Wouldn't that be nice?

Oh, trust me, that coon will not be back. Seminolewind - I too wish the preditors would stick to their own kind! I could let you have all the coons I catch to feed those hawks! Thank you everyone for the words of sympathy. I am a big girl (usually) when I have loses because I know it happens to everyone sooner or later. I just was so happy with the two moms and their babies. Shoe Inspector's were the first that have ever hatched on our farm and I was excited to see what the mixes were going to look like. I have BOs, BSLs, SLWs, Silver Campines, and EE hens who could have been covered by any of my three roos (EE, SLW, or Golden Campine.) I will get to see the six that were spared grow up, with my luck they will all be roosters! The little BO looking chick is hopping around well on it's one leg and lifting the other out of the way. I will let it be until I see that it is suffering in some way. I hope it can adapt and recover on it's own. Thanks everyone, ya'll rock........
BYC friends are special!
