This is so sweet and such a surprise I just had to share. We have a pair of juvenile Cream Legbars that are close to going outside. This morning, we found the roo cowering in a corner of the brooder (we think some of the others chickens his age were being mean to him) so we separated him to give him time to destress. Meanwhile, my husband came home with four Blue Jersey Giant chicks. We decided to put them in the brooder with the roo while we set up their space. We were keeping an eye on them to make sure the roo wouldn't hurt them. Next thing we know, he has the chicks under him like a hen. So, we decided to get the female Cream Legbar and add her to the brooder to see what she would do. Now, the two of them are sitting with six chicks (we added two that were alone) under them. Everyone is nestled contentedly with happy chirps all around.

Awwww! Do you have any pictures?
I didn't think to get pictures the time, and after you asked, we kept trying, but Paul, the cream legbar roo, would always stand in front of the babies so we couldn't see them. In July, we were finally able to get a pic. Paul was still standing in front of them, but they are big enough that you could see them anyway. We also got a picture today of Paul and Linda (both cream legbars) with three of the four Jersey Giant babies. The fourth didn't want her picture taken.
