Hi everyone, I'm a long time admirer of this community. I look up advise periodically and now I want to share my new and old stories of my urban coop too. My coop family is usually small less than 6, free ranging only when I'm home, I've had ducks and chickens amongst other pets for more than a decade. Most recently my favorite white Silkie hen passed from a feline murderer last fall, she lived to be 8yrs old. I thought I'd take that as a recollection time and a winter break. I am now awaiting 4 new Silkies and Frizzles, and I'm so excited!! The coop was immaculately cleaned, remodeled a bit and ready for my new bunch, they'll be spoiled! It's a straight run, which doesn't matter anymore to me. If I get all males, I'm okay with that, unless they make it an issue. I'm ready! Glad to join!

Welcome to BYC!!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Oh gosh, I am sorry for your loss of your old Silkie hen. :hugsIt's never easy to lose them, especially one that was a Senior bird.

Good luck with all your plans, if you have any questions about anything along the way, be sure to ask. Welcome aboard!
Thank you! Yes it was a terrible accident, she was in the wrong place wrong time. And I still remember just finding feathers everywhere, and how sad I was to pick her little body up. So sad. She was the best, everyone loved her, buried near the house. And I remember her daily. Thanks! I think I will usually have questions when weird things happen. ONce apon a time, I had no idea what a "sudden chicken syndrome" death was! Scary as hell, RIP that bird too, sadly, a sudden seizure, broken neck all in my arms. I had so many question! Now, onward, to be a great momma bird to my new flock soon. Thank you!

Yes it's incredible heartbreaking to pick up their lifeless bodies, so difficult. My heart goes out to you, :hugs we never forget them.
