Hi . My poor rooster got frost bite on his comb & waddles yesterday. Last 4 days have had below temps at night & barely above freezing during day. Didn't look bad yesterday but looks worse today. Kept them inside their house as to cold to let out along with almost 7 inches snow didn't help. Let sunshine in yesterday & today. Let them out today for first time this afternoon after clearing Paths for them show has melted a lot today. How should I treat. Or better to let sunshine do it's thing. He looks & acts in pain. He still eats & drinks & went out this afternoon. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. I put veterisyn plus on it but thinking I shouldn't have.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

Don't touch it. Just watch it and make sure it doesn't get infected.

How much ventilation do you have in your coop? Ventilation is the number one thing in cold weather that prevents frostbite. When it gets extremely cold, such as well below zero temperatures, some frostbite is inevitable.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Sorry about your guy. Nope, don't put anything on it and don't touch it or have him where he'll bump it. Make sure he's drinking plenty of fluids and if it's really bad, might want to give him some electrolytes.

High humidity without enough ventilation was a problem we had too our first year, then got an exhaust fan, nipple bucket so no open water in the coop, and horse bedding pellets on the floor that absorbs the poop. Now, the humidity stays around 50% instead of 70-80%, like it is outside most of the time.

Sorry to hear about your rooster! You've come to the right place for advice though!
