Update on rooster. He is acting better still slow moving but he is getting old. His comb is black I'm places & so is the bottom of his waddles. I do hope none falls off. The swelling is completely down. He lays in the sun a lot which no doubt does feel good. He has always been eating & drinking which is big plus for him. Figure it will be just a matter of time & he will be his normal self hopefully

I have a question for anyone on here.. have any of you used First Saturday lime in your chicken house & or in their run?? Douse it really prevent mites & crawly insects?? I'm thinking about trying some but woul like everyone's opinion on this subject first.

The black sections absolutely will fall off. The tissue is dead. Let is slough off on its own.

No.

Douse it really prevent mites & crawly insects??

No.

Just provide a good place to dust bathe and check your birds monthly for external parasites. Keeping away wild birds helps too.

I use it in my runs, but just to neutralize the soil and dry it out. It does not kill mites. Its great for white washing the coop too. Fyi: you can buy lime cheaper at farm stores just be sure you get agricultural lime.
