Hello all!

For a brief introduction, this thread will be following the first year (at least) of my new chicks for this year. Please stick around if you want to watch them grow, their personalities develop, and hear funny chicken stories!

You can call me Kate, please feel free to share pictures and stories of your own chickens, I love to read them!

I've owned chickens for a little over two years now, and at the moment my flock consists of 1 Jersey Giant, 4 Easter Eggers, 3 Olive Eggers, 3 Silver-laced Cochins, and 3 Salmon Faverolles. I adore all of my chickens, they each have their own name and unique personality, and although I'm sure many of them will be mentioned in this thread, they won't be the focus.

The focus will be on the six chicks that I ordered from My Pet Chicken, who are expected to arrive tomorrow morning! I've had excellent results with My Pet Chicken, using them to order my last nine chicks, who all were alive, healthy, and correctly-sexed.

I am getting 2 Australorps and 4 Silver Cuckoo Marans, which are both new breeds to me, though I've heard many good things about them.

I've already decided on their names too. These chicks' names will all be after spices and herbs as a theme. The Australorps will be Cloves and Pepper, and the Silver Cuckoo Marans, Nutmeg, Ginger, Parsley, and Sage.

I am in great suspense for them to arrive tomorrow! If anybody has any pictures or experiences with these breeds I would love to hear it! :)

Stay tuned!

Sorry I haven't updated! My chicks have arrived and are all healthy and lively! Hopefully I'll be able to share some pictures later this evening, thank you to everyone who subscribed! :)

Finally time to meet the chicks! I apologize that this is so late, my chicks will have their one week old pictures taken tomorrow and I haven't even gotten their first photos shared yet! All of these chicks are named after spices and herbs, I thought it would be a cute idea to give them all a common theme for their names :)
So here we are! In all of these pictures the chicks were two days old.

This adorable Australorp is Cloves! I don't mean to play favorites out of my chicks, but Cloves certainly is winning me over with her sweet demeanor and her adventurous personality. Cloves is either a ball of energy, running freely through the brooder, or sleepy and ready to cuddle.

Our next Australorp chick is Pepper. I absolutely love Pepper's dark marking all over her face. Pepper is much more shy than her broodmate, Cloves, and is not so eager to be held and cuddled, but this does not keep me from adoring her.

Nutmeg, the Marans, is the smallest of the crew. She is very friendly and sweet, though she was the only one to give me troubles with having to clean up a pasty butt, which was not a pleasant experience for either of us. Fortunately, I haven't had to clean her up in a few days and she is catching up in size to her broodmates. Nutmeg is the only Marans I can easily distinguish with the large marking on her head.

Parsley is a darker color than my other Marans. She's quite low-key and friendly!

Ginger is a calm, easy-going Marans, her personality has not struck me too much yet as she takes to herself most of the time.

Last but not least, we have a Marans named Sage, who is quite the character already! She seems to think herself far more dignified than the rest of the chicks, and her feathers are growing much more quickly too.

There you have it! Six new chicks added to my flock. I love getting to know all of their personalities and watching them grow, and boy have they already grown! I may or not be able to update with their week old photos tomorrow, hopefully so! Thank you again to everybody who is reading! :)

They are precious! :love There's always one that stands out to me in my broods, too. You try not to pick an favorite, but they work so hard to make you go against that.
