Kebonnix 12-egg Incubator Thread

Every time I think I have things figured out. :barnie
🎶Thats life🎶
I just bought a fairly good quality hygrometer and went with that. The sensors in most incubators are not very accurate. Ours varies and is only about 1 degree off, but that can cause issues. Mine always seem to hatch early by atleast a day. The pekin duck we just hatched was 2 days early. I just hate to see people trust the cheap hygrometers from Amazon that are often more inaccurate that the incubator. Lol

I’m not sure how to know if a thermometer is accurate or not. So I don’t know if the little mini is correct or if the Kebonnix one is correct.

This ^^^ from Page 1 of the Kebonnixs user manual, which I attached as a PDF on the first page of this thread. I never read this part before, either --- and it states NOT to use a digital thermometer, but to use a liquid thermometer instead. I admit I haven't tested it with a liquid thermometer, but with my digital thermometers (3 of them!) I got readings all over the place. I don't know which one to trust, either. I opted for going with an average reading, which just happened to be 0.5-deg higher than the Kebonnixs gauge. So I adjusted it (see below), and it's loaded and running right now. 17 days to go.

And if I need to adjust Kebonnix I don’t really know how to do that either haha

I set my kebonnix at 100 since it seemed just a half degree below the electronic one when I tested it.....
I just checked the user manual, and it says that a digital thermometer may register lower than the Kebonnixs thermometer - but explains why that might be (plastic housing vs direct air contact). It recommends using a liquid thermometer instead, placed at the level of the eggs. I guess I've got more testing to do.

.....I added water to the small line, but it went up into the 60’s, so i suctioned a bit out. I’ll have to run it a bit under the line......This morning I put 12 eggs in. Humidity is at 45%...... Will see how long the humidity holds before I have to add more water.
Remember that humidity is affected not by how much water is in the reservoir, but by how much of the water's surface area is exposed to the air. So you could theoretically have a jar of water in one, and a 1/4-cup of water in another - and if the diameter of both containers is the same, then the humidity will be the same.

Since the Kebonnixs has just two reservoir areas, then for the first 18 days you'd put water in the exterior cup just up to the line, so that water fills only the first reservoir. You can control humidity from there by opening or closing the vent. That's about it. Then for the last 3 days, you add enough water to fill both reservoirs to double the surface area.

I suppose one could reduce the surface area in the first reservoir a bit by adding a non-porous object into the reservoir, like a rock or some of those glass pebbles, so that they extend above the water level. Could work, maybe?

I manage by keeping the vent open 100% ALL of the time, but it still runs a bit higher than I'd like (45-48%). So I'm considering drilling a second hole and adding a plug I can put in or remove as needed.

I tried to order a mercury thermometer as I have a bunch of non-mercury liquid ones at school and none were even close to accurate. If anyone finds a link to a mercury thermometer, please let me know!
I googled "mercury thermometer for sale" and got a boatload. This one looks interesting: https://www.katom.com/383-5458.html...r&utm_content=SZ_REDIRECT_ID&utm_term=3835458

This one is an oral thermometer, so it probably won't work (maybe?) but I caught in the description that "mercury-bearing products CANNOT be shipped to the following states: California, Connecticut, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin."

Maybe that's why you couldn't find any?

So...... maybe get a friend or family member in another state to order one, then ship it to you. ;)
