keep eggs from freezing in winter

I've had -14 below and none frozen unless they are on the floor, the shavings in the nest boxes are deep, and there is no drafts in the coop, i pick up as late as 5 or 6 at night

How many chickens do you have? Maybe strategically reducing the number of nest boxes you have so that the chickens themselves keep the eggs warm might work. I have noticed that even though I have plenty of boxes for my girls, they most all tend to favor one particular nest and they will "wait in line" and pace the floor waiting for their turn. I collect my eggs throughout the day, and there is almost *always* a hen in that nest. Could be an economical solution anyway!

Thanks again to all who wrote. I am talking a few way below zero temps(-15 or so) but not too many nights that cold. Now that I think about last winter I guess the eggs only froze on a few occasions. Limiting the # of nest boxes should also work since as another writer noted my hens seem to prefer to use 2 of the boxes more than any of the others. I'll fill up the boxes with deep shavings also. Maybe we'll have a nice mild winter, HaHa! Love this site and all the help it provides~
