This is about the third or fourth time we have found a broken egg shell in the roosting part of the coop. It didn't start happening until we got two Rhode Island Red hens so I'm assuming it is one of their eggs. We find them in the morning when we go to clean it out so I am also thinking it happens at night possibly. I'm trying to figure out if she lays the egg all broken like that or she lays it while roosting so it hits the floor and breaks I have no idea. One of the RIR has laid an egg before that was missing the top of it & also a misshapen egg with a sandpaper texture. Idk if they both are having problems or if it is just one. I am wanting to know what is causing this to happen & if anyone else has had this problem. Below is a pic of the broken egg I found this morning.
