Good morning. I went outside a couple hours ago to collect eggs and toss some scratch around for my babies. When I went in the coop, Lisa (my Ideal 236 Leghorn, 1 year old) was sitting on a roost all puffed up and looking miserable. I offered her some scratch out of my hand and she ate it. I also grabbed some Layena and offered it to her but she wasn't interested. I decided I need to bring her inside and keep an eye on her, so I came inside to get the dog kennel. I walked back out to find her in the yard with a rooster on her, pushing her down into a cold wet mud puddle. Poor baby! She's missing a lot of feathers on her back because the roos seem to like her a lot. Poor thing, I pushed the little roo off of her and picked Lisa up, she was soaking wet and freezing cold. It's about 40 outside right now, but this is TX so that's really cold for us.
So now she's in a dog kennel in my laundry room with a heat lamp. I gave her water, hard-boiled eggs, a little scratch and sunflower seeds and she is eating. She's warmer now and drying off pretty good, and she also laid an egg in the kennel.
How long should I keep her inside? I don't think she's sick, she was just cold and wet. She's looking much better now, so should I put her back out? Or let her stay in for the rest of the day and night and put her back out tomorrow?
