I have been hatching eggs to start a quality BBS flock. I hatched a gorgeous blue (appears to be a hen but too early to know for sure). Unfortunately she has 4 toes on one foot but otherwise beautiful crest, nice wings and great foot feathering. She is the only blue I have...I am planning on rehoming her this weekend. I don't have room to keep non breeding stock, or I would keep her as a pet. Does anyone keep 4 toes for breeding if everthing else about the silkie is great? Or should I test her to see if she throws 4 toed chicks?

I'm not a genetics expert but IMHO the wrong number of toes is a serious flaw.
There's only one hatchery that has the breed I raise and I was looking to get some for some new blood. Someone else I know got some from the same place. One of them had 5 toes (wrong number) and all the offspring from all the birds had 5 toes so if I was you I would cull.

That is what I thought, but just wanted to be sure. Thanks
