Keep your fingers crossed!

I'm impressed by your scavenging! Beats the $$$ we spent on brand new lumber from the home despot for our coop. These girls will have to lay eggs for 30 years to pay off their room & board!

Well, we were pretty sure we were going to have dole out the dollars in the beginning---we just got so lucky with this. I just couldn't beat the price for it and it's in excellent shape. I'm so happy...I can barely wait to get it here so we can start modifying. We made out like bandits

I'm so mad and disappointed right now. I just got an email (of course, not even a phone call) from the woman we bought the playhouse from, saying her mother had originally bought it and was adamant about them keeping it, so she needed to give us our money back. Yesterday, she had mentioned 2 other people were going to come see it (after we had tried to bargain--hey, you have to try

). At the time, I thought it was just the usual ploy to discourage us from trying to lower the price, but now I'm not so sure. It almost sounds as if someone may have offered her more money, after she told them it had already been purchased, and she took the deal. Maybe I should have more faith in humanity, but why would you list something if you weren't completely sure the person who actually *owned* it would mind?!

It was a total waste of the weekend as well, since we didn't do any building because we had to wait to see it, drive in to town to do so, and then realise we couldn't even move the thing until next weekend. Ahh, I'm livid. It's just not cool to sell someone something and then go back on the deal right away. Argh!! We should have gotten friends to help us pick it up yesterday, but we didn't want to interrupt their mothers day.

Guess it's back to square 1

We'll live, not a big deal, it's just awful because we had it all planned out perfectly.

I'm sorry about the problems with this playhouse and the person selling it. I think your right about someone offering more and them changing their minds.

I always say if it was meant to be it will. I feel there's a reason for everything. We may not understand it sometimes, but still there's a reason. Did you see Earthy_Chicks new coop? It's way nice,

and I think most of the ideas came from books in the library. You should be able to find friends and family with extra wood just laying around, it may help out with expences.
Good Luck with whatever route you take.

That's unfortunate that she wants it back. She probably isn't pulling your leg. My mom is the same way. She comes undone if we part with something that originated with her. (That's putting it a nice way). I'm under orders that should I ever decide to part with my piano (a gift for my 9th birthday), I have to let her know so she can get it back from me, because my dad worked so hard to pay for it back in 1977. We've even gotten reactions when we passed down outgrown 'fancy' dresses of my daughter's. So don't be too hard on the seller. She probably is telling the truth.

If it's true she got a better offer, well, that's extremely sleazy, and you know what comes around goes around.

I think there's a better coop out there for you, anyway -- keep looking!

I am always very inspired by the coops people make out of scrap and recycled material. I don't even have chickens yet -- am moving to the country next week! -- but can't help thinking and planning what I'm going to do.

good luck!

Did you tell her you were going to make it into a chicken coop? As we've been collecting things to build the coop with, like windows, and calling on sheds and stuff like you are, I have noticed that people get a little puzzled, slightly less friendly, when they think its for chickens not something more "nice". I think they picture a ramshackle backwoods coop: they haven't seen the Seattle coop tour pics I guess! (I've taken to saying it's for a project for my daughter instead, not untruthful but sounds more like a playhouse."...... Maybe the lady's mom was offended that her playhouse gift would be for "just chickens". Some people don't get chickens like the people here do!
