Hello!
After a few years of a typical coop situation and 4 hens, we are down to a happy, single black australorp in Cincinnati, Ohio. She's going on 7 years old. We're not *planning* on continuing to keep hens, thus her single status. She is happy to bop around the yard and keeps company with our dog, cats, and kids. She sleeps in a cat carrier, which she chose over the coop! We have been talking her inside the house at night, to be sure about predator safety.
Here's the question: is it possible to keep her acclamated to the Ohio winter, while letting her sleep in the house, which is around 65 degrees? Is that similar to the temp she'd be if another hen were supplying the warmth?
The cat carrier is outside on the porch for her during the day, and she rests there at times, but I think we'll have to make a better shelter for her before the colder temps arrive.
I welcome suggestions. Thanks!
