I was once told that dry cat food in bags will eventually lose nutrients and become stale tasting and to keep it air tight in a container. Makes sense since we keep our dry goodies air tight.

Does anyone know if feed will become stale for chickens and should I keep it in those large plastic containers?

Feed stays fresh for 3-4 months if kept cool and dry. Yes you want it closed up if possible to keep rodents and insects out. Make sure it doesn't get moldy in the container as moldy feed can kill chickens.

x 2 No feed lasts long enough around here to ever risk getting stale - we end up buying feed for everyone every two weeks, and make a point to rotate out our emergency preparedness stock every couple of months to keep that from being stale if/when we find ourselves in the position of needing it.

We only have 5 chickens for now, so I guess I would have to secure it--it does last for quite sometime beings they forge also. Thank you.
