Any suggestions on keeping urban backyard chickens calm during the 4th of July fireworks and festivities? Mine are 13 weeks and I ve had them for 3 weeks and this will be their first 4th.
:/

Fireworks never have seemed to bother my chickens. My dogs however are another story.

Some of my free-range game hens literally fly 25 feet straight up when the first rockets are launched nearby. So stressed birds damage eggs when incubating. I would like to outlaw fireworks near livestock. I have problems as with condition not unlike PTSD. The sounds for some animals more than startle, they also hurt.

It s not the neighbors firework that I m that worried about it's more the cities big fireworks. They do them less than a block away from us and I was worried about the huge boom:)

I run a box fan in the coop window when it's really hot; maybe that white noise would help with the fireworks being so close? If you only have a couple of birds, you could bring them in the house in a big dog crate, just for that time. Mary
