I use a good grass hay mix, mine enjoy picking around and eating the leaves. I give them fresh slabs every so often.

Do you ever have any problems with impacted or sour crop? The long stem thing always worried me hahah

I have never had a crop problem, never knew about them until this site. I see my birds eating long pieces of hay and grass all the time. My thoughts are there's a problem with bacteria or maybe all the worming and antibiotics throw off the natural system. Though just a theory.

Hmm wow that's so interesting! That could definitely be it! All I know is I read about it and now I'm paranoid hahah I just got my first ones in October. But yeah, I was wondering about worming too actually. Heard a lot about it lately but didn't know if it was necessary or even really how to tell, is it in their poop just like dogs?

I personally never wormed a single chicken, and don't believe it's necessary.

It's a personal decision, you should decide for yourself, I have never heard of worming chickens until the last few years. I'm not sure why it's suddenly something everyone does, I still practice old time husbandry, and a more natural approach to keeping poultry.

Some types of worms you can see quite clearly - nothing beats getting up close and personal with chicken poop!

Ah okay, yeah I only got mine in October but have wanted them for years and done tons of research and I never heard if it until recently either, even after i got mine, so I'm not really sure why it's big. I mean, I know other animals need to be wormed but never heard of it for chickens. I too think I'm trying to do it more naturally too so the worming thing I guess wouldn't really fit in. But then I don't really do anything specific, just gonna start feeding them better feed and stuff. But yeah, I don't really care one way or the other, I just don't really knoe how common worms are or if they will get them if I don't worm?

LOL true! I'm even hoping to make a poop board soon so then it'll be really obvious but it's good to know they're mostly pretty easy to spot, thanks!
