Keeping Chickens Free Range

thanks everyone (CHEEKA) and the auto door is on my list - the Call duck joined the 2 White Rocks in the coop last night so hopefully all will be well. CHEEKA it sounds like you have an awesome set up & I might head that way for next year, I am also worried about letting them out too early b/c they are not laying yet, the chickens or the duck, and I do not want to go searching for eggs.... The chickens were even roosting & pooping in the nest box so I put a thick stick above the boxes on an angle and at least now they poop on the side.... work in progress - thanks again.

The coops. I call it my shantytown.

The bantam turned out. Plus a few LF.

I recreated the yard toys my kids out grew. The houses are coops and the goats love to climb on the toys. The birds also use them to hide from hawks.

Hahahahahahha! My coop also looks like a Shanty Town ( not that yours do * you just called it that) But it looks like that just because I free range them and the coop is just there for them to roost and noting else!

Quote: We also have goats that like to climb on my baby sisters toys! She hates it when they do that but there is nothing she can do about it!

Here they are as babies...

They still get in a chair if you get up. My goats act like dogs and will never be more than pets, but I sure do enjoy them.

...and the real kids.

Hahaha!! We have three babies at the moment!!6 of our Boer goats are pregnant for their first times! We got them as kids and I can't wait to see how their babies will look as they have been bred to our herd male who just a mix goat, so it will be very interesting to see how they look! Sadly one of them ( there where seven pregnant, but not anymore) aborted her babies, when we just saw her we thought she had given bith but then we noiced she had no udder and there were very young dead triplets on the floor! It was sooo sad and I cried and cried and cried....! My goats are like my own kids...I love them very much!

I just bought two more pullets as I had the money and wanted to add them to my flock because I don have any black hens only 1 roo! So I just wanted to know if they could bee EE's 'cause they are black?? Can anyone help!
I will TRY to post pics of them tomorrow!

What kind of comb do they have? What color are their legs? Do they have beards?
They have a comb like this:

I don't know what you call the different combs, but that is how it looks! ( this is not my hens comb, got it off the internet! but it still looks like that just a little smaller!)

Their legs are a black/purple colour!

No they do not have beards or muffs!

No but with out the beards and the pea comb I doubt they will lay colored eggs. The comb in the picture is what is called a single comb. The comb is said to carry the colored egg gene. Now none of that can be 100% until you get the eggs.

This is my EE kinda hard to see the comb, but the best way to describe it is small and knotty looking.

This is my black Australourp. She has a single comb.

White EE

I think the Austrlorps legs are yellow, but cant remember.
