Keeping Chickens Free Range

I let mine (4 nearly adult, 5 seven weeks) free range in my backyard, but I don't have any plants back there that I would consider a garden. I think if you range them in your garden you would be quite upset with their landscaping efforts. Between eating every green thing in sight and making dust baths in any patch of open dirt, they can be quite destructive. :)

I do let them in my garden they don't touch the plants that much I was just wondering if anyone else does this .

I am letting my 19 week old girls free in my garden currently. I hate weeding, so was hoping for their help. I wish they were a little better in that department!

I think they may have eaten a little head of broccoli that was growing but it was no biggie as it was going to seed. They really aren't messing with anything else but my tomatoes aren't red yet, so that could change. I don't have the pest problem I have had in years past which makes me very happy!

I mean I SERIOUSLY hate weeding! Well that and I have 40 chickens, 3 dogs, 3 kids a husband and a business to run. Weeding seems like just more work!!

When I was brooding my CX, I put them in the garden at 2 weeks old, I think. I did a video of that way back then. I hadn't thought to record my hens poking around the garden though. I will do one. They really are beautiful hens!
