Keeping chickens in yard

Has anyone ever heard about putting cayenne pepper seeds around the perimeter of your yard (or where ever you want your birds to stay) and them staying in that perimeter?
I can not for the life of me remember where I heard this, but I wanted to know if anyone else had heard this.

I'm willing to bet that they will eat the cayenne pepper seeds and be on their way.
