Keeping ducklings dry

Anyone have tips on how to keep them from making a mess of their water in their brooder box (other than using mesh fence as a floor)

I use a water trough for horses as a brooder box and a watering container commonly used for chicks.

Just make it so that the only things they can get in there are their heads.

Just something cheap and simple like this is good. Since they wont need it for long they grow so fast!

How is your duck project going anyway?

Cover a baking pan with fine hardware cloth (½ or ¼inch) and place the waterer on top of that, so that any spill will end up in the baking pan.

I currently have 5 babies and the incubator has 17 due next weekend, 18 more due two weeks later.

Wow your going to need to get busy making waterers just remember cut the holes just large enough for them to stick their heads into and enlarge as they grow. Messy is a ducks middle name but the tips you got can sure help.

The milk jug idea is working great! I’ve ran 23 ducks in the last month through them and they have stayed mostly dry throughout the time.
