If this is not in the right place I'm sorry and pls feel free to move it, tks.

I know that when you put eggs in the incubator you have to place them point down and big end up.
That being said, a few days ago an old farmer here on the island said that when putting eggs into an egg carton or in the fridge you should do the same. This makes them stay fresh longer than if you put them point up. Has anyone on here heard of this before or know if it is true? Just want to give my customers the best eggs avaiable.

I don't think it makes them last any longer or stay fresher but I put them in the egg cartons anyway. It's easier for me to pick them up.

Thanks LindseyM12 but I don't think I explained myself correctly, sorry.
I always put them into egg cartons and into the fridge also but what info I was looking for is does it make a difference if you put them into the egg carton point up or point down? I was told that point up makes them stay fresher. Is this true or is it just an old folk tale?

I've always heard that point end down helps them stay fresher. So that's the way I store mine in the fridge in an egg flat till they are ready to be sold.

What part of the Bahamas are you from. I went there this summer on a cruise.

I am from a small island in the Abacos named Man-O-War Cay. It is only 2 1/2 miles long, 1/2 wide with about 300 Bahamian residents and 100-150 second home owners which are mostly Americans.
If you can by cruiseship you proably went to either Freeport or Nassau which is our capital. While they are both nice places they are very "tourist" orriented as to here in Abaco we are alot more laid back and are considered a "family" island. If you like the tourist attractions and the casino way of life then go to Atlantis in Nassau you will have a great time but if you want to relax on a beach (where you might be the only ones there), dive in some beautiful crystal clear blue water (where you can see the bottom from just looking over the side of the boat) and enjoy some nice hospitally from the local Bahamian, then you need to come to Abaco!
I've heard many American say that they have been all around the world but once you visit The Abacos you will always come back there's no other place like it!

My husband and I honeymooned on Lubbers Quarters Cay in a small house. It was beautiful and truly a peaceful place.

I have never heard that storing eggs with the pointed end up keeps them fresh. I store mine pointed end down because it does make them easier to pick up out of the carton. I think storing them that way also keeps the egg yolk centered, but that may have more bearing on incubating than freshness.

Loose lips sink ships

I believe that the air cell is on the larger end of the egg, not the pointed end. So if the eggs are stored pointed-end up then the air cell will bulge up into the egg. I guess that could have an effect on the rest of the liquid contents, displacing the white, moving the yolk, making it strain against its moorings. I also don't know how that would affect the exchange of gasses in the egg to have the air cell pointed down inside the cup of an egg carton.

This may or may not make a huge difference in eggs kept in the refrigerator and/or used soon. Maybe it made more of a difference back in the day when more folks kept eggs at room temperature for longer periods of time before taking them in to market.

I always set my eggs large-end up in the cartons, for ease of grabbing and to have the air cell up. Except for the eggs that don't seem to have a difference in the size of their ends, with those it's just a guess.

Sorry everyone for MY mistake.

I was in a rush earlier and had to run. Upon my return and reading of the replys I quickly realized that I made a mistake and said that I was told to put them point up which is incorrect. I was told exactly what all of you are saying and that is POINT DOWN.
