Keeping hens from pecking rooster

My rooster has a scab on his comb and my hens keep pecking it. It's not really bleeding but I think the hens are keeping it from healing. He is a really good rooster and takes great care of his hens, but he is missing a leg and he can't escape them (I don't think he really wants to anyways). Should I put something on his comb to help it heal or maybe separate him?

If you can separate him within sight and sound of the ladies that would probably be best until the scab heals. Otherwise I think blu-Kote can mask the wound and prevent picking, you could try that.
