I hate hot summers and so do the chickens. we have red sex-links but they too seem to have a tough time in the weather, so my mother bought a mister. that did not seem to work. then we put a fan in front of the mister but that did not seem to work as well. Is there any other way I can keep my chickens cool without scaring them?

I'm currently in the middle of winter and am yet to experience a summer with chickens but I've heard of other people freezing like 1 or 2 litre bottles of water and putting them in the coop for the chickens to sit next too?

My coop floor is dirt. I water them down several spots every evening so they have lots of cool earth to dig in and they really like it. I also freeze them treats-watermelon rind, canteloupe peelings, anything they normally get that I can make "chicken popsicles" with.
