I think wrapping around the shed is a good idea. And I would plan to make the shed a coop. It would make a very nice one. Really what you have there is a run. A coop or at least a coop up north here, is a building that protects the birds from elements. Different climates need different things.

As much as I would love to have the shed be their coop, my husband has very firmly refused and claimed it as his. He's been wanting and needing a shed for a while, so I can't really hold it against him. The long term plan is to close off 2 sides, but honestly it gets so hot here the majority of the year I'm afraid of it getting too hot for them if we close it completely. Out of the entire year, the most we get is about a month of "cold weather" that northerners laugh at us for complaining about.

If you do close a couple of the sides for shade or wind protection leave the tops open to help with ventilation. You are right, the heat is a much greater danger than your cold.
