Keeping two roos?

Thanks to everyone to your imput so far. It seems like the main considerations are the number of hens and space and also the breeds of the roos. Rhode islands get a bad rep. Luckily every red i have dealt with has been well behaved.

Great info sa far!!! Every one is right on!!! I love BYC!!!! I have too many roo's right now and they are really hurting my girls! They are in compatition to breed! They will actually grab the hen beeing bred before the other roo even finishes his buisness and jump on right after! I am thinning them this weekend! If you are just wanting eggs then No roosters are needed! 1 roo per 15 is fine. but if you want babies or are breeding on purpose you lose fertility rate after less than 1 roo per 6-8 hens. If you have more than 1 roo you deffinately don't want less than 8 hens per roo! As for agression.... Handle/hold/carry as much as possible!!! especially carry! This shows them from a young age you dictate what /when and where they go! and who is boss! At the first sign of aggression do not turn aside or walk away! Make them give into you! Walk directly towards them and make them give way! Then if they still show aggression or if they every jump/fly at you.... Freezer camp ASAP!!!! I will give any animal 1-2 chances to learn. then, I eat them!

Good Luck and God Bless!
