One of my brooches just hatched out 2 keets. One is an obvious Pearl the other one has the colors of a pearl, but instead of a chipmunk pattern, it's mottled. Rather than solid lines, it has broken color patterns down it's back. I wasn't able to get a pic, yet, but was wondering if anyone knew right off what it was, or if it was just a normal pearl variation.

I'll try and get pics later!

Thanks!

Some refer to the mottled body stripes/colors as "teddy bear" markings. I hatch quite a few like that, lavenders and lite lavender variations too. Usually my brown/tan mottled body striped keets feather out just like a normal pearl grey keet will, but it could be slightly pied. I'd have to see it to be able to tell you for sure, so if you can post a pic I can probably tell you.

Does it have a wide dark stripe on it's head, wider than the normal pearl grey keet does? Usually the head stripes are what's more indicative of what the keet will feather out as...

Thanks for the reply. I will go home and check it out. I am thinking it is broken patterned, as well. I may have to swipe them from the mom and get a pic.

The mom is a silkie mix. I thought she might have been eating her eggs right up to hatch, because she's been broody for a few months and her eggs would disappear. She wouldn't break and she is skin and bones. I finally discovered a HUGE snake shed and realized a snake's been eating her eggs. She was even trying to incubate a rock, poor thing! I have her these two eggs right before they hatched and she is a completely different bird! They were popped when she got them, and she heard them peeping and just started fussing and clucking. It's like she has something to live for, now.

Yikes, a snake... I can't deal with snakes! Poor lil determined broody havin' to deal with that, lol. The snake will take the keets as well if you have not dispatched it...

If the head stripes are broken on the keet in question, it may be a royal purple.
