Weird story. A friend of mine found a khaki Campbell or khaki mix that was dumped at a local park. It is very friendly and seems to think it needs to be inside. It was dehydrated and underweight. I have it isolated from the rest of my flock and it is looking a lot better after a week. I was assuming it was dumped because the plumage color, bill, and leg color all seem to point to drake. But this morning I go out and notice new feather growth and all the new feathers have penciling which now has me wondering If it’s actually a hen. I have someone taking it tomorrow if it is a drake but I need a hen for my other duck and would hate to give one away. I’m wondering if drakes ever get penciled feathers or is that only a female trait. I’ve also read somewhere some khaki hens have dark patches that molt out with adult feathering. I have no idea how old this duck is. Anyone able to fill me in???
