We are currently on day 29 of incubating our khaki campbell eggs. I was getting concerned when I kept seeing feet by the air sac. Then over the weekend my incubator humidity dropped to 55% for several hours (day 26). I mad an observation slit and noticed that my duckling was shrink wrapped. Realizing that if I did not intervene, my duckling would most certainly not survive, I attempted to remove the now leathery membrane. The procedure went well, however, after freeing the duckling I noticed that the yolk sac was not completely absorbed. The little one passed away shortly after. My questions would be how long should I wait to ensure the yolk is absorbed and is there anything else i could do? Assuming that the other eggs have a similar issue with shrink wrapping.

How did it go? Generally as long as they can breathe through a pip hole you should wait until all blood has receded before helping further. They can continue to absorb the yolk after pipping for quite a while.

The first that was completely extracted seems to be doing well after two complete days. It has been improving each day. The yolk sac was absorbed and I placed non medicated neosporin on the absorption sight. It is now able to hold its head for longer, however, its right leg hasn't fully extended. I have one egg left to go which has shown signs of life when candling, but no pip hole.

only got one which survived a week. Tried to have it buddy up with some of my chicks which hatched earlier in the year, but it didn't help.

Good evening. I've been raising chickens for just under three years. I have a lot to learn yet. I have not raised any ducks yet... I do have a pond so perhaps I will hatch some duck eggs in the future. For now I'll continue to enjoy watching the wild ducks that happen by. Khaki-Campbell ducks are very handsome creatures. I wish you the best.
