Bruising can indicate pipping; it can also indicate an egg that has DIS. I'd candle the egg to ensure it is alive. Candling will also show if the duckling is pipping on the round end where it should. What kind of duck? My Call ducklings hatch on the 26th day of incubation.

Unfortunately this egg looked like it tried to internally pip at the bottom But did not succeed 😢 this was my first hatch so didn’t want to start getting involved as was only day 26 and khaki Campbells normally take 28 days but have read they can hatch from day 23. I had to assist the second egg as he was stuck. But he’s a healthy little week old duckling 😍 just really struggling trying to find a friend for him 🥺😢

hen there isn't a duckling available I have used a couple chicks. In that way the duckling does not imprint on humans, but at a week old he probably has already imprinted on you.

Struggling to even find a chic around the same Age there’s non near me!!

He hasn’t actually imprinted as of yet he follows us all including the dog at the moment

He would still have imprinted, ducklings imprint on the first large living being they see, now he associates with people, he might just not be forming a strong attachment to a particular person yet- For example, if multiple people spend time looking after him.
It isnt such a bad thing, anyway, my first duckling imprinted on me, and had to wait 4 days for his little sister to hatch. She also imprinted, but the dynamic was a little different since she had her brother, wasnt so dependant. They've grown up into incredibly friendly sweet 8-9 week olds. Dougie and Sprightly.

It's obvious that they shouldn't be kept alone, but it does happen, when only one hatches, or if a sibling dies. So don't beat yourself up about it- The best thing you can do is give him a mirror in his brooder, and perhaps a teddy, this usually helps- but do keep looking for other ducklings a similar age.

Would love to see more photos of the baby!

This is a photo of my girlie, Sprightly, after she hatched 😁

So it doesn’t matter if there a little older then? He/she has a mirror hot water bottle (changed regularly) a little penguin teddy and a baby shark teddy he loves to snuggle with in the corner of his brooder. Aka bob seem to be happy for the moment hopefully won’t be much longer till I find 1

My single Duckling had me. But also had a stuffed dog that she loved. She loved it so much that I had to let her have it in the coop with her for a while when we were trying to integrate her when she got old enough. She would scream without it. So stuffies work really well XD

bless him! He's adorable.
A few days won't make too much of a difference, I wouldn't go older than a week though. They grow so fast and the size difference would be a bit much.
Oversee them meeting for the first time, when I introduced my two, there were a few pecks back and forth during the day, nothing serious, just had to remind them to be gentle and keep a close eye. Within 24 hours they were cuddling up together!
If you're worried when introducing, let them see eachother through something first, like a plastic panel or something. Give them a few minutes seeing one another before removing the block- I did that with my two but I needn't have bothered, they were fine!
Best of luck finding a friend for him!
