Hi,

I have recently purchased 3 Khaki Campbell ducklings at 2 months old. Has anyone any tips as to what I should be doing?

Will wheat as feed do them any harm?

Also, I have a magpie duck sitting on a clutch of 8 eggs. I never kept a record of when she began incubating but having candled the eggs I would imagine she is circa day 25. I candled yesterday and seen the duckling fluttering about inside, but not in the air void. Any tips as to what I should do when hatched?

Thanks.

Wheat is not a bad thing but it is not a complete feed. If you are not where you can buy a feed, or would rather put together your own complete feed, here is one source

And Mother Earth News has a couple of articles on feeding your flock from what you grow yourself, and Carol Deppe included some feeding notes in her book The Resilient Gardener. Harvey Ussery also wrote a book in which he writes about putting together your own flock feed.

It is especially important when they are ducklings for them to get a really good mix of vitamins and minerals - for example, ducklings need three times the niacin (B3) that chicks do - and we often see ducklings (stories on the Duck Forum) with niacin deficiencies.

There is a Broody Thread for 2015 here somewhere.

Please let us know if you have trouble searching the archive or finding that.
