Welcome to BYC. I'm so sorry about the loss of your rooster. Your "australorp" hen looks to have a pea comb, I think. A clearer picture of her comb would help. She may be an easter egger.

What a shame. Despite having been to NZ I didn't realise stoats existed there.

Yes unfortunately they are not part of the natural Ecology of nz so they cause a lot of issues to Native and other birds. I have placed a trap where Pedro died in the hope to catch it this time. The only Native land mammals in nz are two species of bat and they're very tiny. Stoats were introduced to control the number of rabbits. Both are thriving really
