The lights in the courtyard ceiling began to turn on in-sinc with the rising of the sun to create the real-time effect of a sunrise without the advesre affects on the vampire subjects. A ray of light hit Dirk's eye and he squinted, turning his head away before he opened his eyes. As part of a test the night before, Dr. Conners had had Dirk and Jessie shift fully into dragons then let their instincts tell them where and how to sleep in the courtyard. Both had flown up into the largest tree there, an old Red Maple that towered almost 120 feet high, but had chosen very different ways to bed-down. Jessie perched on one of the larger limbs and simply roosted, similarly to a chicken; Dirk, however, found a limb with plenty of clearance below it, wrapped his tail around it six or seven times, then hung upsidedown like a bat, using his wings to wrap his body into a cocoon shape with his head sticking out the bottom end. Now he dropped down onto the limb below him and started streching out. Jessie was doing the same thing. After a few minutes, they glided down to the observation station where Dr. Conners was. He was holding a clipboard in one hand and an entire pot of coffee in the other, as he usually was in the morning. After writing down what Dirk and Jessie told him had happened, he returned to the lab and the two Neko's glided dwon for breakfast.

Josh slowly ate his food. He was alone and sad. He thought about how he ruined everything yesterday.

Selena just gave him a sweet and tired smile and realized she had no idea how to make a friend, usually people would come to her and her mom would make her talk to them, she wanted Selena to be on everyone's good side. Selena was like a pawn to her mom used like doll
