One of the guards pulled out two foot-long wooden stakes and said "You see these? These are for if either of you gets too far out of line. And don't think I won't use 'em, 'cuz I sure as heck will!"

(I love his books too, but yeah, they're gonna get taken.  The assult force is just waiting for the rest of their teams to get back with the subjects and the information before they leave.)
