My (quite young) sons were smitten by the chicken exhibit at the local fair and are interested in showing chickens. I wouldn't even know where to begin! So, tips? Should I just try to talk them out of it?

I agree that 4-H is a way to go. I have two boys ages 14 and 9. They just recently joined 4-H and are looking forward to showing chickens, rabbits, and thier dogs. Also depending on their ages FFA would be another alternative.

CloverBuds in 4-H is for 5 (Kindergarten) to 8 year olds. But even poultry shows has showmanship open for any age. There was a 4 year old at the last national show I went to that had this bantam cochin that kept falling asleep in her arms. It was so cute!

Kids under 8 can show for fun at our fair. We also have a local fun show for kids of any age. My kids showed for the first time this weekend at a fun show.
