Is there a reason why the fingertip is used? You'd think an area with fewer nerve endings, like one's arm, would be more ideal.
I'm not sure... easier to squeeze the blood out, perhaps? Perhaps there's less fat, too -- the sugar readings taken from a fingerstick show what the blood is doing closer to that exact moment than, say, a reading from a CGM in the stomach.
Also, if one cleans their hands regularly, then the fingers are more sterile than, say, the arm. They also don't sweat very much, so there's less risk of pus and clogged pores and stuff....
