Alcohol is not recommended for diabetics because it lowers the Blood sugar and causes dehydration. High blood sugar also causes dehydration.

I knew that someone would notice that!
It's something that most -- if not, all -- Type 1 diabetics go through. After their blood sugar is brought back down after diagnosis, the pancreas' remaining insulin-producing islet cells will get back to work producing insulin, albeit in smaller total amounts. I'm guessing that it's called the "Honeymoon stage" because it's easier in general to manage one's blood sugar during that stage.
Sadly, the stage doesn't last forever. It trails off eventually, and when it does this varied from person to person -- some people's last for only six months, and some people's last for five years or more. Mine has been going for about four years, which it pretty good.
So, no, I haven't gotten hooked up.
